What the work involves

Keep the evidence for the correction

Prepare a comparison showing the existing entry, the proposed corrected entry and the record supporting it. Include the whole original instrument, not just the page containing the error. Tell the adviser about subsequent documents that repeat the same detail.

Before making an appointment, ask who needs to participate and whether the proposed correction affects other records. Once the registered correction is available, keep it with the earlier deed so the two documents can be read together.

Documents to have available

• Copy of the registered document with the entry marked
• Supporting records showing the intended correct details
• Details of the original parties and their availability
• Any later document that repeats or relies on the entry

Keep the registered copy unchanged and mark the error on a separate copy or note. Tell us if the same detail appears in a bank, khata or later sale document too. A small typing mistake and a change to what was transferred may need very different treatment.
