What the work involves
- Explain whether you need a will drafted, reviewed or registered.
- Prepare for a private conversation about your wishes and circumstances.
- Work through the signing arrangements with the advising professional.
- Decide how the completed document will be kept and found when needed.
Start with the wishes and the draft
If a will has already been prepared, say whether it has been signed and whether advice was taken on it. If there is an earlier will or a proposed change, disclose that before the next document is treated as ready.
Use the conversation to understand the preparation and attendance requirements for your circumstances. If the person making the will needs language or mobility assistance, raise it early. Registration coordination should not become a reason to rush a personal decision or use wording the person does not understand.
Documents to have available
- Existing will or instructions, if available
- Outline of assets and intended arrangements
- Information about the persons involved, shared privately
- Questions concerning witnesses, execution or earlier documents
If you already have a will, bring it to the discussion, even if you want a different arrangement now. Write down the questions you find hard to resolve. You do not have to circulate family or asset details to begin the conversation, and registration alone does not settle every question about a will.
Before work begins
We’ll explain the advice, drafting and registration assistance involved before you go ahead. Sensitive details can be shared through the channel agreed for your consultation.
Questions about registration
Do I need to send my family’s details on WhatsApp?
No. Your first message can simply ask for a confidential discussion about a will. We can agree how to share the details after that.
Can I ask about preparing the will as well?
Yes. Say whether you need drafting advice, review of an existing draft or assistance with the registration process. The work and the professional responsible should be agreed separately.
