Registration / GUIDE

Registration has been delayed. What is actually pending?

A changed date is frustrating. Break the delay into specific questions you can follow up.

Ask which document, decision, payment or person is holding up the next step. Keep dates and written updates together before agreeing a revised plan.

Replace “still pending” with a clear question

A delay might concern the draft, missing papers, attendance or an authority’s response. These need different action. Record who is waiting for what and when it was last requested. If your agreement contains payment or completion dates, share those with the lawyer advising you. Do not assume a verbal promise to postpone settles the effect of a deadline.

Ask what would allow the next step to happen

“Pending” can mean that a document has not been supplied, a draft needs approval, a payment is awaited or an office has asked a question. Ask which of these applies and who needs to act. Keep the answer dated. If the delay affects a contractual payment or completion date, show the agreement to your adviser instead of assuming the dates move automatically.

Before the appointment

  • Record the stage, date and reference number.
  • Retain any written deficiency or rejection communication.
  • Identify who can supply each outstanding item.
  • Tell the adviser about approaching contractual dates.

The next step

Ask for the next action, who is responsible and when you should check again. Get advice promptly if a contractual date or notice is involved.

Can a coordinator guarantee a new completion date?

A coordinator can explain the steps within their control. Authority decisions, system availability and missing information can affect the timetable.
