Registration / GUIDE

Can someone attend registration on your behalf?

Work, travel or illness may make attendance difficult. Clarify representation before fixing the date.

Explain who cannot attend, where they are and who is proposed to act. Have the authority and execution requirements checked for that arrangement before anyone signs or travels.

Plan the signature, not just the journey

A relative’s willingness to help does not settle what they can sign. The document may need to authorise a specific act, and the process can depend on where it is executed. Share any existing power of attorney and the proposed transaction. If the person is abroad, leave time to understand the requirements rather than using a downloaded format at the last minute.

An appointment and authority are separate arrangements

A relative can help organise papers without necessarily being authorised to execute a deed. Explain exactly what you want the person to do: collect a record, attend a meeting, sign a document or receive a copy. Have the required authority checked for that task before making travel plans or signing a general format supplied informally.

Before the appointment

  • Provide the complete authority document and its schedules.
  • Explain where and when it was executed.
  • Identify the proposed instrument and property.
  • Disclose any relevant change in the principal’s circumstances.

The next step

Ask which steps the representative can handle and which still need the owner. Confirm the documents before booking the appointment.

Can the same representative handle every future transaction?

That depends on the authority and circumstances. Each proposed act should be checked against the document’s scope and current validity.
