Identify the electricity, water and other accounts connected to the property. Ask each provider what is needed for the relevant name or account update.
One transfer does not tell every provider
Keep the latest bill, account number and meter reading with your handover records. Check whether dues or deposits need to be addressed with the previous owner under your agreed terms. A utility account update serves its own purpose and should not be treated as proof that ownership questions are resolved. Where the provider asks for a particular document, save that requirement.
Make a separate list for each connection
Electricity, water and association records may use different references and contact channels. Record the current name and account number for each, and keep acknowledgements of update requests. Check the next bill rather than assuming the application completed the change. If an old balance is raised, preserve the bill and the handover arrangement for discussion before accepting an unexplained amount.
Points to work through
- Collect account numbers and recent bills privately.
- Record any outstanding balance requiring clarification.
- Check which supporting documents the provider asks for.
- Keep application acknowledgements and completion evidence.
The next step
Work through the providers one at a time and keep the application references. Check that later bills reflect the completed update.
Are utility updates included in sale registration?
Only if they are part of the agreed assistance. Confirm the scope and any separate provider fees.
